Union Bank is a large commercial bank serving individuals, small and medium-sized companies, and large corporations across Nigeria.
I'm not affiliated with Union Bank in any way. This was a personal UI design exercise.
The app hadn't kept pace with modern banking: cluttered navigation, dense screens, and a dated UI that made everyday tasks harder than they needed to be.
As one of Nigeria's largest banks, it deserved better, so I set out to show what that could look like.

I audited the existing app screen by screen, identifying issues across navigation, visual hierarchy, information density, and an outdated UI overall.
I benchmarked against competitor banking apps, aiming to modernize the experience and appeal to a younger generation of users and bankers.
From there, I redesigned key flows like transfers, data and airtime recharge, bill payments, along with the homepage and other core pages, focusing on clarity and ease of use.

As an unsolicited redesign, this project was more about practicing UI at scale for a complex, high-stakes fintech product, and learning how to approach real constraints without direct access to users or business stakeholders.
It sharpened how I audit existing products, identify friction, and make confident design decisions even without a research team behind me.
While I do not claim that it is a perfect solution to the issues present in the existing app, I believe it represents an improvement over the current interface. I thought it would be nice to share.
